Responses to Creation/Evolution Debate

Yesterday a debate took place between ‘Bill Nye the Science Guy” and Ken Ham, CEO of Anwers in Genesis, at the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky.

Many skeptics criticized Bill Nye for legitimizing Ham in the weeks leading up to the debate, while others saw this as an opportunity for creationism to be portrayed as a legitimate theory of the world’s existence. More interesting than the debate, perhaps, was the BuzzFeed blog post that followed shortly after titled “22 Messages From Creationists To People Who Believe In Evolution.”

Today, International Business Times published “22 Responses To Buzzfeed’s 22 Messages From Creationists On Evolution And The Origin Of Life,” which specifically answered the questions posed by creationists.

The dialogue, as mediated by BuzzFeed and IBF has avoided the worst of creation-evolution hostilities, and I think it’s worth posting because the BuzzFeed link represents many of the common questions and misconceptions about scientific theories of origins, while the latter attempts to answer them as clearly and succinctly as possible. Whether or not creationists who ask questions about evolution and Big Bang Theory are actually open to answers is another notion entirely. ♦

  1. After watching some of the debate it became pretty clear to me that Bill Nye was simply making a case for the legitimacy of science- a self-critiquing enterprise allowing us to investigate the world we live in. It’s unfortunate biblical inerrancy gets in the way.
